I am so grateful for the producers of “Women of the Movement” series. Please watch this on demand if you can or you can rent it.

This show is based on the life and legacy of Mamie Till-Mobley and her son Emmett Till.

Fight for justice and equality is at the core of this series, and highlights the segregation of African Americans and the White supremacy in the South in 1955. We all know slavery goes way back in history. This needs to be understood by all Americans and how it is relevant even today.

Sadly, we are in the same predicament with our country divided more than ever. There are so many ethnicities that are hated while the African Americans continue to face challenges. Seventy years ago African Americans who lived in the South were slaves living with fear and working in the cotton fields or serving as caretakers.

Today, it is the Mexicans and Latin Americans who have taken over these jobs which gives African Americans and opportunity to build a better life. Although this is a small percentage of the population in the US. Majority of the people live in underserved communities, have the same fears and are killed. We see this everyday and yet there is hardly any progress towards change.

I, myself am an immigrant. I have been able to build a career despite all challenges for the last thirty four years. I have always faced discrimination and micro aggression both in my personal and professional life. But, I have learned to overcome obstacles and create opportunities for myself. Although lately it feels a lot more challenging.

The level of hatred and discrimination is rampant in both the public and corporate environments. We all need to come together to fight for Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion. We are all human beings with different cultures, colors and beliefs. Everyone’s opinion and perspectives count. There is no wrong or write and no need to judge. Take a pause, think, put yourself in the other person’s shoes, and then react. Your response can do more harm psychologically and in some aspects physically.

Let’s all come together and make our country, and the world a better place with love and kindness. Acceptance brings peace and happiness.
